While there is currently no industry standard or benchmark for determining the success rate of drug rehabilitation centers, many facilities do promote what they believe their success rate to be. Regardless of what they claim to be their success rate, we have identified three key factors that are common in truly successful programs.
When qualifying a drug rehab's success rate in Ohio, there are a
few questions we recommend asking:
What does your rehab facility
call a success and how is that defined?
How long is your treatment
program?
What is the cost of treatment and are there any extra
fees?
Do you think that addiction is an incurable disease or do you
believe that people ahve the ability to overcome it permanently without relapse
and without any future symptoms?
The first component to a successful drug rehab is that it
addresses both the physical and the mental sides of the problem. It is
extremely difficult for even the best counseling in the world to overcome a
heavy physical craving. By helping to repair the damage caused to an addict's
body by the alcohol and other drugs, as well as handling the phsyical cravings
then they stand a much greater chance at permanent recovery. Possibly the best
we to address this is through a biophysical detox program, which is an extended
body cleansing.
The second factor is that it should be a drug-free program. By this we mean that the person doesn't walk out the door with a prescription for one or more drugs and isn't put on any maintenance drugs for replacement therapy. The only way to truly become drug-free is to get off all drugs. Lack of results have led many treatment centers to prescribe mind-altering medications to address some of the mental symptoms or give replacement drugs to treat physical symptoms, but neither one of these can bring someone to complete rehabilitation.
The last element is the lenght of time. Unfortunately most rehab programs end at around 28-30 days, despite the fact that most people don't recover in that amount of time. We recommend something that is long-term, but with an open-ended or variable-length course of treatment. An individualized time won't rush someone through who's not ready and won't arbitrarily hold someone back who is. Everyone gets to move at their own pace.
